Posting Tips

Here are the basic steps for using this site and creating posts.

  1. Getting Started
  2. Preparing Photos
  3. Creating Posts – Adding Photos
  4. Creating Posts – Formatting

Getting Started

To register and create a profile, click the register link here or at right.

Create a username and enter the email address that you would like associated with your account. A password will be emailed to you (this may take up to 15 minutes).

The first time you log in, you will see a link at the top of your dashboard screen asking if you’d like to update your profile and password. It is recommended that you choose a password that is easy for you to remember and add some basic information to your profile.

After you publish your first post, your profile will be appear in the list of photographers. Next we’ll go over how exactly to create a post.

Preparing Photos

In order to display properly, photos should be sized at 72ppi and 800px along the longest edge. If, after resizing, photos are larger than 500K, they should be saved at a lower quality level in order to be uploaded.

Creating Posts – Adding Photos

From the dashboard or the toolbar, select “New Post.”

Click the upload/insert icon to add a photo to the post.

Once your file is uploaded, you will see the following screen. Whatever is in the “Caption” field will appear as text below the image in the final post. The Link URL allows viewers to see your photo in a separate window (I recommend leaving this field blank). Double-check the size selected is no more than 800px wide. Then click “Insert into Post.”

Creating Posts – Formatting

The “edit post” page has several important areas to fill out. First, add a title to the post in the top field. This title will also become part of the permalink URL for the post. Double-check your caption and make any changes you want. Lastly, check the appropriate categories for your post. These allow visitors to more easily navigate posts.

After you have successfully submitted a post and it has been approved and published (by an administrator), your account will be upgraded to “author” and you will be able to post without needing any approval. Your name and any info in your profile will also appear in the list of photographers.

Here is the final post for this example, showing the title, test, photo, caption and categories.
